IDS Group received top honors from the Orange County Branch of the American Society of Civil Engineers for their contribution as structural-engineer-of-record for the $543 million John Wayne Airport Improvement Program (AIP), the largest public project to-date in the County of Orange, that included the new Terminal C, new Parking Structure C, a new central utility plant, and related projects.

The construction associated with AIP generated 6,600 much-needed jobs to the local community, and an independent study conducted in 2010 estimated the project resulted in nearly $1.2 billion in direct and indirect benefit to the community, all without the use of tax dollars. Also, the terminal building is believed to be one of the first airport terminals in the United States to utilize buckling restraint braces (BRB) to withstand a strong earthquake. In fact, the entire expansion was designed to be an essential facility, including the parking structure, which means the buildings can be used by the neighboring communities as a “safe zone” in the event of a natural disaster.
